Indexed universal life (IUL) is life insurance. It is not a savings account, a securities investment, or a retirement plan. Its primary purpose is the death benefit.
Crediting rates vary. Interest credited to an IUL depends on index performance, caps, participation rates and spreads set by the carrier, which can change. Past index performance does not predict future crediting. The 0% floor applies to index crediting, not to policy charges.
Costs apply. Cost of insurance, premium loads, administrative fees and rider charges reduce cash value. A policy that is underfunded or heavily loaned can lapse, which may create a taxable event.
Tax treatment. Policy loans and withdrawals up to basis are generally not taxable income while the policy remains in force and is not a modified endowment contract. Tax law can change. IUL.Fund does not give tax advice.
The calculator. Projections use the crediting rate you select, compounded monthly, with contributions to age 65 and no policy charges. Real illustrations from a carrier will differ and control.
Licensing. Insurance products are offered through licensed agents in the states where they hold a license. Not all products are available in all states.
